Translation requests
When a user requests a free translation, the specific word or selected text is sent to the Google Translate API. Volya does not send the full webpage.
When a user requests an AI translation or AI-generated example sentence, the selected text — and, when necessary, a short surrounding snippet for context — is sent securely to Volya's backend. The backend forwards this information to the user's selected AI provider (OpenAI, Google Gemini, or DeepSeek) to generate the requested response. Volya does not send the full webpage.
Account and synchronization data
Users may create an account using an email address and password or sign in with Google.
When a user signs in with Google, Volya receives the user's name, email address, and account identifier. Volya never receives the user's Google password.
When a user registers with an email address and password, Supabase securely handles the authentication credentials. Volya does not have access to the user's plaintext password.
Vocabulary, workspaces, settings, flashcard progress, and learning statistics are stored locally through the Chrome extension storage API. When a user signs in and uses synchronization, this information is securely transmitted to Supabase and associated with the user's Volya account so it can be synchronized across devices.
Information Volya does not collect or use
- Volya does not sell user data.
- Volya does not use advertising or analytics trackers.
- Volya does not collect or store browsing history.
- Volya does not collect password-field contents, unrelated form inputs, or editable-page contents.
- Volya does not send full webpages for translation.

Service providers
Volya shares information only with service providers required to operate its features:
- Google Translate processes text submitted for free translation.
- OpenAI, Google Gemini, or DeepSeek (whichever the user selects) processes selected text and limited surrounding context for AI translations and generated example sentences.
- Supabase provides authentication, database storage, and synchronization.
- Google provides Google Sign-In.
These providers receive only the information required to perform their respective services. Volya does not sell user information or share it for advertising.
Data retention and deletion
Information stored locally remains in the user's browser until the user deletes it, clears the extension's data, or uninstalls Volya.
Synchronized account data is retained while the user's account remains active or for as long as necessary to provide Volya's services. Users may export or delete saved vocabulary through the extension's settings.
Users may request deletion of their Volya account and associated synchronized data by contacting [email protected].
Security
Volya uses HTTPS when transmitting information to its backend and service providers. Access to synchronized account information is protected using authentication and authorization controls.
No electronic storage or transmission method is completely secure, but Volya uses reasonable safeguards designed to protect user information.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Volya's use and transfer of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
User information is used only to provide or improve Volya's translation and language-learning features. It is not used for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if Volya's features or data practices change materially. The updated version will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
